Our school recognises the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
peoples to the Country on which we live, work, learn and grow. We pay respects to Elders
past, present, and emerging. We acknowledge and respect the heritage and connections
of the Bindjareb people of the Noongar Nation.
John Tonkin College Education Support Centre is committed to recognizing and
honoring the heritage and connections of the Bindjareb people of the Noongar Nation,
who named the area Mandjoogoordap (now Mandurah), meaning “meeting place of the
heart”. We strive to inclusively and respectfully integrate the cultures, perspectives, and
contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples into our school community
and promote reconciliation across our campus.
Our vision for reconciliation is to:
• Educate and inform students and future generations about reconciliation
• Create a culturally safe and welcoming environment where everyone can learn about and
appreciate the diverse cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
• Respect and acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols, traditions, and ways of
being, knowing, and doing
• Recognise the role we all play in the journey towards
reconciliation
• Build respectful and reciprocal partnerships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
We aim to embark on this journey in partnership with the community, working together
to raise awareness about reconciliation and drive action towards a more inclusive and
harmonious future.
